From Educational Media Center to Instructional Resource Center...

Ann_Davis Mrs. Ann Davis had been with the School Division since 1953. She established the Educational Media Center over 39 years ago in a storeroom at Kellam High School.

Under her leadership, the Educational Media Center was recognized on the regional, state, and national levels. In 1975, she was named the first Outstanding Educational Media Educator of the year by the Virginia Educational Media Association. She went on to receive numerous awards from professional associations and universities.

In 1977, the EMC moved into the school administration building where it stayed until 1989 when it was renamed Media Services and moved to Cleveland Street.

Changing our name in 2002 to better reflect our purpose, the Instructional Resource Center has a major impact on the use of instructional technology in our school division, and we do make a difference!

August 2007 to June 2012, we were housed in the Commonwealth Building off S. Independence Blvd. After a brief fire, we have relocated to the former Plaza Elementary school, next to Brookwood Elementary - 641 Carriage Hill Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

Mrs. Davis's greatest desire was to provide students and teachers with the materials, equipment, and skills necessary to improve instruction in the classroom.  Graduating from the "old cut and paste" method to the more technical, we still strive to fulfill her desire.
